Guest Post: Letting Your Creative Soul Shine
In our latest posts, we heard stories of healing through Spirit connections or EFT.
In today’s post, I would love to invite my friend Sarah Leonard to talk about the ways art can bring healing effects in your life.
And how you can too connect to the hidden talents you already possess.
Let’s move on and let Sarah talk about it all.
I am a huge believer in the power of your creative soul.
We are all born as creators you know – yes, even you back there, shaking your head and saying you can’t draw.
And WE ARE PERFECT CREATORS!
We were created to create!
But somehow, with the hustle and bustle of a busy life, we get sidetracked from that. We disconnect from our inner longings and creative selves. And doubt our skills. We push creativity away.
We say to ourselves that artists are born with the talents they have. They can’t really be learned. You either have a natural ability in art or you’re just not meant to do it at all.
I just want to nudge you here – and tell you that none of that is true. I know – I’m a living, breathing example of how anyone can be creative. Anyone can let art into their lives.
They certainly won’t regret letting it in – it will give them gifts they never even knew they wanted or needed.
It will set them free.
Here are some simple ways you can let your creative soul-self shine each and every day, no matter how busy you are:
- Start your day with a little bit of doodling in a journal. I do a short meditation and pull an oracle card each day. Then I journal around them and doodle a little. I use really simple supplies – just a couple of pencils, a blending stump, a rubber and some sparkly gel pens. Super simple and easy for anyone to fit in. I find it helps me remember my chosen card and my meditation messages much more clearly as I work through the day. Win-win!
- Choose your clothes and accessories with care. Did you ever stop to think that creativity doesn’t have to mean art? It doesn’t! If you spend time choosing clothes that make you happy, or shoes that make you smile – that is a creative task. Be mindful of it – these simple things can also heal!
- Look for the beauty that surrounds you. Take little photos of cute things, notice the way the sunlight falls, enjoy the sound of rain on your window pane. All of this noticing will help feed your soul with little inspiring tidbits that will get it all fired up to create even more things!
As you can see, inviting the creative into your life doesn’t have to be hard, difficult, expensive or too time demanding. It can be as simple and carefree as you make it.
I do think it’s vital though – creative pursuits give us so much more than just a pretty piece of art to look at.
They give us the space we need to grow and shine.
It quietens our monkey minds and allows us to step away from the worries of the world for a while. They can heal us and make us whole.
I was once a depressed, stressed and burned out individual. And I didn’t know what to do to get myself out of this awful dark pit I found myself in. I found the answer to my fervent prayers in an unexpected place – at the art table.
I once thought I couldn’t draw. That I couldn’t be an artist. That I wasn’t good enough.
When I actually allowed myself to embrace art and let it into my life I found that none of those things were in fact true.
I found that as an artist I was able to fully connect with my soul’s purpose and invite lots of healing light and happiness into my world.
It was glorious.
